Very nice pictures, as usual, Piper. Thank you so much for sharing them... now I definitely want to go! I can see why you didn't post the grave pictures. It's not a superstitiousness that causes you to pause, but rather a respect and reverence. Beautifully done!


Thank you, Claire! I started to expand on the reason why I deleted them and decided to leave it just this...

I would like all of those fallen souls to rest in peace after a hard battle.

There's the picture I've posted with bodies near Dunker's Church...and I still wrestle with that one. It's at once the most arresting image I saw that day and is one that lays bare the sacrifice of soldiers.

Just visited your photos from your trip. What amazing images! My oldest brother visited Antietam one time, said he could hear the voices of the men as they fought for the freedoms they gave their lives for.
One can only imagine.....
